The Board of Fire Commissioners

The Fire Commissioners maintain suitable fire apparatus and equipment for the Fire Company, obtain and keep appropriate insurance, provide fuel and oil necessary for the operation of apparatus and equipment, accept responsibility for other specified losses, and pay an annual fee to the Fire Company.

The Volunteer Fire Company

Since 1930, this volunteer organization has provided fire and emergency services for the Town of Chemung’s Fire District. Membership is open to anyone at least 16 years of age who meets the qualification requirements. Support

Annual funding for fire and emergency services is provided by the Town board with a levy on property in the Fire District. In addition, the Fire Commissioners and the Fire Company sponsor fund raising activities. These activities include public dinners, car washes, chicken barbecues, raffle tickets, golf tournaments, and annual fund drives. Ever aware of the needs of others, the volunteers also help with Artic League Christmas deliveries, Salvation Army Kettle Drives, collections for tornado, hurricane, flood and fire victims, as well as with local school and recreation activities.
